Microsoft today appear the release of Windows Concluding 1.6 and Windows Terminal 1.7 preview. Windows Terminal i.7 preview will come with several new improvements including Settings UI updates, Read-only panes, JSON fragment extensions, windowing improvements, and more. Microsoft has released Windows Terminal 1.6 and Windows Terminal 1.7 Preview. Windows Terminal 1.6 includes startup actions, progress indicator, pixel shaders, and more. More details of everything that's included in 1.6 is available over in this weblog post (except for the settings UI). JSON fragment extensions

Windows Concluding now supports JSON fragment extensions. This means that snippets of JSON tin can exist downloaded as extensions that can modify a user's settings. Options include a new window ( "useNew" ), an already existing window ( "useAnyExisting" ), and an already existing window on this desktop ( "useExisting" ). This setting can be institute on the Startup page of the settings UI.

There's a new command line argument for running commands in specific windows also. You can utilize -- window ,- w < window - id >  with wt . exe  to specify which terminal window you'd like to collaborate with.

Read-only panes

Windows Last at present supports read-only panes (Thanks @Don-Vito!). This allows you to foreclose input into a pane, which could exist useful if yous have a build or process running that you don't want to interrupt. Automatically focus on mouse hover

A new setting has been added where you can automatically focus a pane when information technology's hovered with the mouse (Thanks @Don-Vito!). This new global setting can be found on the Interaction page of the settings UI or can be set in your settings.json with focusFollowMouse .

Settings UI updates

We are still actively working on improving the settings UI experience. Hither are some updates with this release:

Settings UI is now default

The settings UI is now fastened to the Settings button in the dropdown menu, making information technology the default experience for those using Windows Terminal Preview. Redesigned color schemes page

We received feedback that the Color schemes page could use a redesign. We worked with @mdtauk to come up with a cleaner design that's less chaotic while also pairing colors with their bright variants.

Accessibility and keyboard navigation

We've been working hard on accessibility for the settings UI and take made great progress. The settings UI has been tested with a screen reader and everything should be keyboard attainable. If y'all find whatever bugs with accessibility, nosotros strongly encourage you to file them on GitHub.

Other features

Center on launch

A new global setting called centerOnLaunch  has been added, which allows you to launch the terminal in the center of your screen (Thanks @Hegunumo!). If paired with the initialPosition  setting, the final volition launch centered on the monitor that the initial position coordinates are fix to.

Miscellaneous improvements

  • The tab switcher now displays the zoom, bell, and progress indicators (Cheers @Don-Vito!).
  • The terminal at present supports paste filtering and bracketed paste mode (Thanks @skyline75489!).
  • The bell indicator will e'er appear in the tab when the BEL sequence is emitted.
  • Hyperlinks now back up the file  URI scheme.

Bug fixes

  • Hyperlinks now de-underline when the pane is non focused (Thanks @Don-Vito!).
  • The tab color picker now supports keyboard navigation (Cheers @BenConstable9!).
  • You tin can one time again apply arrow keys in the tab switcher (Thank you @Don-Vito!).
  • Focus should at present render to the terminal after yous dismiss the tab rename field (thanks @Don-Vito!).
